Ten high school students and two adults traveled from Lake Baikal in Siberia Russia to learn about culture and environmental watershed issues. The students spent two weeks learning about Lake Tahoe, participating in Water Education Summit and staying in host families.

Thanks to the Youth Coming Together (YCT) 4-H project, the Russian students were greeted with 4-H Welcome Bags.

Collaborators, UCCE, EL Dorado County Board of Supervisors, Tahoe Baikal Institute, Resource Conservation District, Sister Cities (Bailalsk & Lake Tahoe) and local high schools hope to create a cultural/environmental exchange for high school students from Lake Baikal and El Dorado County. The goal is to educate and share knowledge about watershed conservation in Lake Tahoe and Lake Baikal. Lake Baikal, Siberia Russia, is the world's largest fresh water lake.

Lake Baikal holds 20% of our fresh water, spanning 400 miles long and 80 miles wide. Lake Tahoe and Lake Baikal share similar watershed conservation issues. An educational environmental exchange could connect youth and help solve Lake Tahoe & Lake Baikal's watershed problems.

For more information please contact Sandy Martin through the UCCE office at 530-621-5503.
